When you walk into Eros Florist, you are welcomed by a feast of colour and the fragrance of fresh flowers in a flower paradise.
“Eros” stands for “love” in Greek. At Eros Florist we are passionate about flowers, with that in mind, we strive to make very order, whether placed in the shop, over the phone or online. We aim to make the ordering of your flower or gift hamper a pleasing experience.
Meanings and history of the name Eros: | Edit. “Eros” stands for “Love” in Greek. And in Greek Mythology, he was a young god (of love, affection, desire, and beauty), the son of Aphrodite, who was armed with arrows that caused the victim to fall in love. Equivalent to Roman “Cupid.”
Eros Florist is close to the University of Pretoria and has been part of Pretoria’s landscape since the 1950’s. Beatrice’s late parents bought Eros Florist in December 1974. The original shop was located in Hatfield Galleries, close to “ Japies “ as many old university Students may remember. As a schoolgirl Beatrice spent many Saturdays and school holidays helping in the flower shop and joined her Mom at Eros Florist full-time in 1981. 1988 Eros Florist opened a 2nd shop in Hatfield Plaza. In the late 1990’s Ken, Beatrice’s husband joined the team at Eros Florist.
From our florist business in Hatfield, we deliver flowers and gift hampers to most of the suburbs in Pretoria, Pretoria North, Centurion, Montana, Pretoria East and Pretoria Central. We are members of Interflora, Bloomable (previously SA Florist) & Teleflorist. Eros Florist offers a same day delivery service, provided the order is received before the cut- off time. All of our florists and management team at Eros Florist are either level 1 or 2 trained by Interflora South Africa or have completed a full time apprenticeship. Meet Beatrice (Blom) Archer
Beatrice is a second generation florist. Her late Mother Molly Botha was a professional florist. Learning the trade from within the different florist Molly worked for. On the 1st December 1974 Molly Botha became the proud owner of Eros Florist. Beatrice was still at school, so afternoon’s, weekends and holidays were spent in her Mom’s shop learning the trade and assisting staff and clients alike.
Beatrice finished school and decided to join the world of high fashion and sales. Rising quickly in the group she was soon managing a fashion chain retail store, Beatrice became the youngest manager in the early 1980. After careful consideration Beatrice decided to join her Mother in the shop to take over the marketing and management of Eros Florist. The rest we can say is history as Beatrice started to take to arranging flowers and plants. Beatrice started to buy flowers at the Pretoria fresh produce market back in 1982, doing away with a flower agent. This set Eros Florist as a leader and the start of 2 outlets in Hatfield Pretoria.
Eros Florist had also joined Interflora African Areas (PTY) Ltd a worldwide floral relay organization on the 23 February 1975.
“Beatrice has represented the Northern District of Interflora at the National Designer of the Year competition on two occasions. She has also served on numerous committees as well as headed others.
Beatrice became a National Interflora Floristry Tutor. On a continual basis they offer training to our Interflora Members and their staff. This has provided Beatrice with the background to constantly train and educate the staff at Eros Florist.
A National Interflora Judge, was the next step, which means that one has to keep oneself updated with the latest International trends in the floral Industry, as a national judge, judging floral designers at a very competition level can be both rewarding and taxing. Beatrice has endeavour to learn new skills from Floral Masters from Europe. Gregor Lersch and Wally Klett have been both an inspiration and motivation to share with interesting parties within Africa.
The flowers for ‘Interflora’ TV campaign, aired on DSTV in 2008, were done by Eros Florist on behalf Interflora African Areas.”
